day at the dog park.

Thursday, April 7, 2011

it is a rare occurrence for us to go to the dog run.  3 reasons:

1. there are never any small dogs in the small dog run.
2. sam gets raped, pillaged, and violated in the big dog run.
3. sam likes to drink from the pee water puddles.

but this weekend, the small dog run was overflowing with little dogs and their know-it-all owners.

i try to keep to myself in the dog park. somehow i always end up in a conversation with some idiot telling me how to raise my dog.

I know this is what would happen on the playground if/when we ever have a kid. Ugh!

We are scared to take Chloe to the dog park...a friend's Boston somehow escaped (I think it was broken fencing along the perimeter; it wasn't at the entry), ran into the road, and the story ended very, very badly.

kate-
that's my #4 reason! owners never shut the gate behind them quickly enough. drives me NUTS. i have a panic attack every time the gate opens and closes.

seriously, we go to the dog park maybe twice a year because i can't handle it.

It's too bad you don't go to the dog park more often but I understand all your reasons. I agree I'm the one standing off by myself trying to avoid the crazies and cursing at all the small things (about both dog and owner) but Milo and Amos love it so much. I also agree about the importance of a small dog area, we tried the big area a few times but it is just not safe, always fighting going on.

OMG poor Sam! We have awesome dog parks here, I dont even have one but we have a small beach reserved for doggies. I always like to bring my daughter there just to watch the shennaningans.

I wish dog parks were consistent too, or can we at least admit it's just a random land blob that we donated to dogs? Why do some people love them and some of us fear them?? Why do some people get "a small beach" a la Marley & Me?
Also re: tall hubs. Heard! My man is 6'9"..."Wow you told me your husband was tall, but I didn't know you meant it! Does he play basketball"

It is only a matter of time that I start making up stories...lets do that? I will begin with "no but he donates his time to apple orchards who just can't reach the top of those darn trees...I make a mean apple pie"

Dog owners at the run, parents at the playground... Why can't anybody mind their own beeswax?

I've always wondered about those dog parks. I have a big black lab and although she's a sweetheart and I swear she holds cocktail parties at our house when we're gone, I know she'd end up getting in trouble at the dog park. Rebecca, I'd be the weirdo trying to distract you so I could steal your dog and cuddle with it all day. Such a cutiepie!

You toughed it out for Sam's benefit-it looks like he had a great time! I was just reading an acquaintance's mommy blog and was horrified when I realized she was that know-it-all mom on the playground! Please, don't ever let me be that person.
