with ed out of town, i finally got around to doing an apartment tour this weekend. it's hard to take pics when i'm asking him to move out of the shot every 2 seconds. of course, sam wiggins still snuck into some of the photos. honestly, i kept procrastinating the home tour because i was afraid you'd be appalled at the smallness of our 1 bedroom. then i figured, i don't really care what you think, and moved on. the lighting situation in our apartment is less than ideal for taking pics, so i apologize for the yellowness of most of the shots.
this nook doubles as our work station and dining table. though you will usually find me working at the table and eating on the couch. woops.
the fireplace serves no purpose and takes up precious space. but i couldn't imagine being without it.
our front door catch-all solution. despite the yellowness, the walls are actually painted benjamin moore edgecomb grey.
no, we don't have an old school cord telephone. it's the buzzer to ring people in downstairs.
yep, that's all the counter space we have. it's obvious why i love 1 pot meals.
i can't believe i just showed you my toilet.
french doors open into the bedroom.
your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. our bedroom is so narrow you can hardly step out of bed without running into the wall.
if you want to know where anything came from, just ask. i'll answer it in the comments.

Your flat looks so cozy and lovely. I adore the French door and the fireplace a lot! And I love your bedside table solution. Brilliant! You have a very adorable place, sweetie. Happy Monday
From one New Yorker to another, you have a really lovely apartment. I love how it's clean and minimalist, yet still cozy and warm. Love those French doors too. Lucky!
looks fantastic! excellent work!
I love everything about this- you've really made the most of a small space and everything looks so clean and refreshing. I especially love Sam Wiggins and am pretty sure he is the best part of whichever room he is in at the time.
abby-
i have to agree. sam wiggins is the best accessory.
I, for one, am glad you don't care what we think. I LOVE apartment tours, and your place is great! Yup, those doors are fantastic, and so is the fireplace.
You did a great job, the colors and furniture you use really makes it feel open. I love the little shelf under your clock! Where did you get that?
whit-
the mounted shelf came from CB2. it works well because it doesn't take up any floor space.
It is a very nice apartment, it is probably very expensive in New York.
Wow! You guys have such great taste! This is one of the nicest NY apartments I've seen!
What a great place! I love how well you have utilized the space.
My house is equally tiny! Although we do have one guest bedroom. I feel your kitchen pain, we prep everthing on the table.
Lovely decor!
Your flat is JUST perfect: it is not about size, but WHAT you do with it! Whish you can live next to me and give me some tips!!!
have a good week my dear!
I LOVE your space! we have teeny condos where i am from to! but i love how cozy they are :)
AH oh my gosh, I'm SO IN LOVE with your teeny apartment! It is so perfectly decorated! I've lived in my share of small spaces and none of them even come close to comparing to how wonderful yours is. I'm jealous. Please come decorate for me!
Gorg, home! I'm smitten, it looks so relaxing in there.
PS. Your comment cracked me up!
xx
absolutely lovely space -- yes i too am enjoying the benefits of less junk and maximizing the small space that i have.
love that simple bed frame. where did you find it? my husband needs something like this so his feet can hang off the end.
tamara-
i have a tall hubby as well. the bed frame is aptly named "tall wood bed frame" from west elm. i'm not sure they make it anymore, but there are other choices just like it.
I LOVE your apartment, and the commentary is pretty genius, too. John and I moved from a large studio to a one bedroom, and it's been a struggle-the stuff that once fit perfectly is now too tight, and we still need real furniture in our living room, beyond just an oversized club chair I could live in. Teach me?
lovely apartment!
Your home is so very lovely! My favorite part is the puppy. But your kitchen is beautiful (I can't believe you have so much room in there) and that fireplace is gorgeous. I love little old details like that.
I like your apartment! You've done really well with the space available to you! <3
Wow, I'm impressed with how wonderfully simple and sophisticated your apartment aesthetic is!
i love your apartment tour and I feel closer to you know that i have seen your toilet :)
Cute cute cute! Of course I don't live in New York, but I feel bad because my living space is bigger than that and I think it's too small! I love how you make it work though! I saw it and I felt like I was home!
I have to say, you use your space very well! Just the right amount of furniture! I loved the fireplace right when I saw it, too bad it doesn't work.
Thanks for stopping over into my side of the world :)
your apartment is awesome i don't know what you are talking about. i love the fireplace. i love the furniture. i love the doors to your bedroom.
You utilize space really well! I especially love the floating shelf you have by the front door.
Where can I get a better look at the print hanging above the dresser? Artist??
hi rebecca! thanks for commenting on my blog. :) which has now led me to yours! i dig all the changes you've made to your abode. as much as i love color, i really like how clean white looks - the fireplace, your room, the bathroom - awesome. and all the little splashes of color are perfect. well done!

the print is called kite hill by paul octavious. you can find it here:

i love your apartment :)
Your apartment is awesome. And do you know what is even more awesome? Worn brown leather lounges. I've got some too, and they are to die for x
I'm moving to a new apt soon and your teeny space has given me a whole bunch of ideas - thanks! Where is your rug from? I love the texture.
Your apartment is adorable, so clean and modern. LOVE it!! Very cozy, and I have to say, I think my favorite part {aside from your cutie patootie Sam Wiggins} are the French doors leading in to your bedroom. :)

i'm glad i could help. the rug is a sweater rug from west elm.
Love your apartment. Where are your clear chairs from, may i ask? thanks!!
hey michelle-
thanks! the clear chairs are from CB2.
I think I would give up my huge bedroom to live in NY. Love your place
I love your apartment! But where do you keep your clothes? Does everything fit into the dresser? :S
Sorry if this sounds rude, but I am genuinely having trouble storing all my clothes in a slightly larger wardrobe :( Would appreciate the answer.
ash-
there is a closet in the bedroom and in the living space as well.
so cool. love it. and with two children, three chickens, a husband and a dog.... i could only dream!
(apartment therapy, how exciting!!)
thanks for stopping by. your world looks divine.

Wow I am loving what you've done with your apt! Q
WOW! You did an amazing job with that small space! I love the tiny shelves by your bed... we have a narrow bedroom, too and those would be so convenient. Congrats on the AT feature, that's so exciting!!!
Lovely apartment, I love what you've done with such a small space!
i LOVE that fireplace. it's a wonderful little apartment.
Your apartment is adorable! I love places with french doors leading into the bedroom.
My old apartment had a similar amount of counterspace and it drove me crazy! I literally jumped for joy when I viewed my new place with it's open kitchen area for the first time.
will you come over and clean, organize, and decorate my place? this is so super everything i dream of great. i am about to marry a pack rat and it's driving me bonkers. BONKERS. oy.
it's beautifully simple.
i really love it.
That is amazing- you have done a great job!
I think your place is lovely and I love the french white doors.
Thanks for sharing your place! Rambles with Reese
Hi There, I love what you have done with your apartment. I have a situation where we do not get nearly enough light, I was wondering what shade of paint you used??
Thanks!
you have a lovely home. where is that amazing clock from?
sara-
thanks! the living space is benjamin moore edgecomb grey. the bedroom is benjamin moore stonington grey. both were lightened to 75% formula at the paint store.
mat-
the clock is from crate and barrel.
There's something so refreshing about an uncluttered small space - you home is beautiful and inviting. Where is your tv credenza from? I love the red gloss!

Found your blog through NYC Taught Me and absolutely love it. Your apartment is beautiful. Where is your coffee table from? My husband and I have been on the hunt for the perfect one for years...
melissa-
thanks! the coffee table is from CB2.
I love your place! Where did you get the floating shelf by the front door?
anonymous-
the shelf is actually a bedside table from CB2.
Genuis! Thank you!
goodness this place is amazing! do you rent or own, and what part of nyc is it?
Is your white dresser from CB2?
megs-
cb2, indeed.
I really admire it when people manage to live in a small space. You did a good job!
If I were you I´d use the fireplace as a decorative storage corner (stacks of books etc).
Rebecca, i really really love your flat. i'm thinking of asking you for some tips on deco when i move. i'll need your help.
love your blog!
