the no bra movement.

proof that the no bra movement actually exists in manhattan. well, the top photo was taken in LA.

ed looked at me this weekend and said... "you know you're not wearing a bra, right?"

then we started noticing every other girl on the street doing the same thing. i was just being lazy, but apparently i was fashionable.

do you ever go sans bra in the summer?

I can only go without a bra if I am wearing something with a built in - basically, it just doesn't work for me. Though, I have seen many women these days enjoying the freedom.
Much love,
B

I constantly go without in the summer although it comes with rules, you know regarding the type of garment and material. I got teased when I was younger about having such a small chest but I wouldn't change it because I can get away with so much more.

Naurnie said...

i hardly ever wear one.

dreamday said...

as much as i can without it being noticable. cami's with a built in are a summer staple.

oh, jenlynn. we are 2 peas in a pod, my dear.

also, i had no idea everyone else was enjoying the freedom as well. where have i been? wearing a bra all the time i guess.

I hate wearing a bra- I started my own movement years ago- Actually after living in the Caribbean for a couple of years I pretty much stopped wearing a bra unless I'm going out out. I buy dresses for summer that don't really need a bra and it the winter I just layer.
I guess I'm blessed with a small enough chest.

Allow me to be a voice from the opposing side...to be honest, I am baffled by these comments. I have never considering getting dressed sans bra, unless it is something like a strappless dress with a sturdy bust. My eyes have been opened.

The only time I dont wear a bra is to bed...and even then I sometimes leave it on.

Krystal said...

i can def not pull that off, hah!

I usually go sans bra when I am out in the dessert

Kate (Embarrassment of Riches) said...

I never even go braless at night, when I sleep.

rebecca said...

inessa-
i can't think of a better time to go sans bra than the dessert.

The only time that I could get away with not wearing a bra was when I was much younger and rail thin with nearly no chest to put in a bra. Even then it as only with certain types of clothing. Going sans bra with a white shirt (like in the top pic) is just trashy imo.

rebecca said...

annie-
i agree with you. there is a right and a wrong way to pull it off.

Jessie said...

yeah with my rib bumpers, i may knock myself out. so jealous of all you flat chested people that can pull that off. talk about comfort!

Petra said...

lol, having next to no boobs I can wear all those tops in summer that really don't look good with one on :)

rebecca said...

jessie-
rib bumpers? awesome.

The grass is always greener. There is no way I can go braless without looking like I'm trying to get a newborn fed, but how I love the look on an impossibly chic girl!

Jennifer Rod said...

i mean i feel blessed with a nice size cup althoug it doesnt allow me the liberty to go sans bra but i do terribly wish i could :)

The closest I ever go to not wearing a bra is when I have a shelf bra in a tank. I guess I don't like the way they look without one! But if it works for you it works. But that chic in the first image is kinda questionable!

Sorry, there's no way I would ever go without a bra. Way too large for that.

I have a week's worth of dresses to wear without bras for really hot weather. Most of them can't be worn with one (deep backs, or complicated straps) but are well lined in the front, but two are just sundresses with smocking across the top. Haven't been brave enough to go sans bra with a thin dress or t-shirt. Recently I had a hilarious conversation with my grandmother about how awful it is to wear a bra when it's hot and sticky, and she said "Yes, when you get so sweaty you feel like you should be wearing a T-shirt UNDER your bra to keep you dry." Her comment was so true and so funny it left me speechless.

amy-
how cool is your grandma? thanks for sharing.

I hate my boobs so I never go without a bra. They are strangely shaped. I can't believe I just admitted that.
I wish I could afford to get them fixed.

Never. Have breast-fed four kids. Say. No. more

I work out in the weather, and have to wear a t-shirt, and when I'm sweating so bad, I want to just take my bra off and wring it out. Seriously. I do go braless! But just not at work. Which sucks. lol

my husband is my quality control too. if he sees too much, on goes a bra. we have a 'seinfeld' photo (from one episode) where we were hiking and ran into another couple, taking each others photos in front of a panoramic background. when the film was developed, and we had this beautiful photo, all my husband could say was 'i see a nipple' . haha.

Elana said...

If I could, I would go braless all the time. Sadly, I think that might violate some sort of common decency law. Jealous.

adele said...

I do it occasionally, moreseo on hols than in the UK, luckily I can get away with it!!!

I pretty much NEVER wear a bra, unless I'm wearing a t-shirt. BUT, I have a very small chest, and doubt anyone would notice anyway!

zephyr said...

i wish...i'm in Elana's camp

Ms. Habit said...

hah! No. Like About Last Weekend said - the option doesn't exist after 3 breastfed babies. Not a pretty sight. But oh, I would if I could . . .

I pretty much wear a bra all the time. Maybe I should try it...

SmartBear said...

Holy smokes! I would knock people out if I went sans bra. It would not be pretty for this DD cup gal who breasted for almost 14 months. Don't get me wrong, I quite like my ta-tas, but they need a little lift! LOL!
Best,
Tina

Rarely do I leave the home w/out a bra. They may be small but I prefer to cover them up. At home though...that's another story!

Thanks for stopping by my little blog today! :)

Who knew you so chic when you decided to leave the girls free? Thanks for visiting Inspired Design... I am now happily following you. xo

If there were an opposite movement of the no-bra movement, I would be its fearless leader. There are women, like me, who should not be seen in polite company without a bra.

lana.aleyse said...

I feel that my god-given small breasts are a gift in this area. I honestly try to wear a bra as little as possible. Once I started doing this I noticed that I was more relaxed and less worried about my clothing. Also no bra strap back-aches at the end of a long day.

i just moved back to the states after living in europe for a few months... and the no-bra movement is in full-force there! i'd definitely take advantage of this if i had any hopes of pulling it off.

kitchu said...

no. i'd need a surgeon to shrink me for that to happen. I WISH. i'd give anything. why are these things necessary? i never even wanted them!

Christina said...

all the freakin' time. granted i am a "slightly" A cup size. (TMI?)

Meh. I really do wish (and have always wished) that I could be a part of this movement. But I'm C-D size and that would be obscene, and, more importantly, really uncomfortable for me to not have support.

Ironically the no-bra "movement" seems pretty anti-feminist to me because it definitely discriminates against women. Women with jouncy boobs.

etoilee8 said...

I try and not wear a bra as often as possible in the summer. I am a C cup and I don't even care.

Aimée said...

That would be my dream, no bra in the summer. But I can't stand the looks that people will give me, maybe in NY girls can get away with it but in Spain...they'll have to put up with creepy (lots of creepy) stares

Amanda Blair said...

PSH this is my dream in life! I have big boobs, and when I was 18 I could totally go without a bra and look awesome, now not so much. I am insanely jealous of girls that can go without a bra...i think it looks so sexy and effortless. LOVE IT!

Karen R said...

Over 90% of the women in the world wear a bra as a foundation wear. I support the No Bra Movement though making it a routine is not a brilliant idea!
One must feel Comfortable with or without clothes, I must not convince people by my views, everyone has their own Say... I just shared mine.
