why do weathermen stand on the beach and yell into the mic "yeah, the winds are really picking up here" as they are almost blown away. no shit.

in all seriousness, the hurricane in nyc pretty much consisted of a prolonged thunderstorm. i know others weren't as lucky.

The way the news built it up, we thought we'd be without water and power and a will to live today. Instead we're just left with lots of chips and peanut butter...

I'm so glad you're ok. The way the media built it up here (in Australia), it sounded absolutely terrifying. We pictured buildings crashing down... I'd much prefer an anticlimax, thank goodness.

I'm happy to hear you're okay. I saw a picture of a man canoeing on the streets of NY this morning, and I could not believe the flooding in the city.Must have been a scary thunderstorm. Kim, xo

really happy to hear that you weren't hit too hard with the hurricane! it's been terrible seeing the areas that did get the force of the storm. glad to hear everything is ok!

I´m glad it didn´t turn out as tough as they believed - the wind and flood must have been quite enough.

So thankful you're ok! Why is that woman wading through the water?! Gross!!!

that is what those crazy fools do, we watch them every year (practically) down here, barely audible, windbreakers flapping in the 'cane breeze as i like to call it, living out the drama of the storm.

having lived through more than my fair share of hurricanes (so many they honestly don't even cause me to bat an eye unless they go to Cat 3), i knew you guys would be okay- but what worried me was that we are always prepared here, you guys don't deal with this kind of stuff, you know? so, anyway, i am glad you are all safe. i was sad to hear of the deaths in other parts. hurricanes are a powerful and frightening force of nature.

I posted similar photos yesterday. Ah, hurricanes. Happy to hear you are safe. P.S. I am SO glad you left a comment on my blog over the weekend. Yours was one I bookmarked awhile ago but forgot to add to my reader and then I lost all my bookmarks with an update. Now, I found you again! I might have done a fist pump when I realized it was you. I'm only marginally embarrassed.

SO glad to hear ya'll were o.k. What worries me most is that because everything was relatively mild and many people fared well, that a laizzez faire attitude will be held by many if another hurricane heads to those parts in the future. After living through hurricane Katrina, and being a Louisiana native, I know first hand how most people feel the weather men can "build it up" only to feel like there was preparation for nothing. That's how a lot of us down here felt 6 years ago today and the reason why MANY (not just due to economic reasons) stayed in N.O. Unfortunately, many of my friends didn't make it or were forced to move elsewhere.Yeah, weathermen are annoying with their typical standing in the wind thing but I'm glad everyone prepared adequately!

it seems as though the weatherman have a new way of making you feel like they are really there in the trenches

My thoughts exactly about those psycho weather reporters. I'm glad the Big Apple didn't get hammered as the forecasters predicted.

Those weathermen are nuts...trying to chase some dream that they'll get the best hurricane coverage EVER. Glad you're okay.
