not the band. my hair.

it goes against all things good and bloggy to post such a horrible picture. it irks me to look at it. ed accidentally took it last weekend. when i loaded pics, i realized i'm going grey like a crazy mofo. this pic is proof.

are you rockin the salt n' pepa? or do you dye? if it gets much worse, i'm thinking i might need to take care of this issue.

Dude, we are on the same wavelength or something today. This morning while showering a bright white hair ended up entangled in my fingers and I had a quick "Oh my god what the hell" moment. I've had stark white hairs pop up since I was 13 but I believe they are multiplying. I decided a while ago to not dye my hair in the hopes that one day I'll have a completely white crazy mane. Or at the very least resemble Cruella de Ville. Only in hair of course. Not in the puppy loathing and general craziness.

i started taking care of my issue in my late 30s. cuz my issue far exceeds your (barely noticeable) issue. but then, i'm like twice your freaking age even though I DON'T FEEL LIKE I AM. not like actually twice but almost.

Oh my, I am 24 and I am graying. It makes me mad. Like, I'm not old enough for this, right? I have a rad hair color and I don't want to color over it... Stupid genetics/mother nature/stress.
Moral of the story: I feel ya on this one!

I have one hilarious white hair--pretty sure it's the same follicle--that I pull out every year. This has been happening since high school. I used to feel alien-ish about it, but now it's practically tradition.

I've seen quite a few younger women going gray who leave it and it looks pretty!

Totally sharing the sentiment. I have the same issue. Ugh! I hear that if you go the at-home approach, it could be a while before you find the "correct" color. I am so not looking forward to that. I could also go to Aveda and try their natural coloring treatments. I won't be able to eat for a month, but hey, what's vanity without the expense?!

I am 24 and i have so many greys! so, i dyed it and I loved the color! problem-- it doesn't last long enough! now i'll have to keep going back because the grey's POP OUT OF NOWHERE! holy mackerel where do they come from?!?! hehe!

It's fun to try different colors though!

I totally hear ya, and I'm with Adele. I finally had to give in and take action a couple years ago (I'm 37). Now I get it colored a few times a year. I'm scared to do it at home, so I stretch it as long as possible before heading back to the salon. Ugh...

julia-
i've thought about aveda too. i'm so afraid that once i start i'll be stuck dyeing forever.

I started dying my hair this year (27) as the grey hairs just got to many for me to handle (though they seemed to predominate underneath so it was more that I couldn't tie my hair up with out having a heart attack if I looked in the mirror). I used an organic hair dye called naturtint which does fade but seems quite good. And you can also mix colours. I was mostly worried about the dye killing my hair. I thought it would be fun to experiment so still finding my right shade.

I do think grey hairs grow faster or something though as they do seem to sneak attack when you don't pay attention.

I got my first grey hair at 38. I started dying soon after. I've been many colors, sometimes two at the same time and I love doing it. If I get tired of red, I go brown. When I'm tired of that I go with blond streaks or all light brown. It's fun.

My temples look similar, which just means it is time for another visit to the hairdresser

Every once in a while I'll get a white hair. I then proceed to panic, pace back and forth and try to decide whether to get out the scissors or just deal with the pain and yank it. Usually yanking wins, because I'm so petrified it'll come back.

But I am ridiculous.

michelle-
yes! i age 10 years when i pull my hair back. thanks for the naturtint tip.

I got a grey streak when I was a teenager but I kept it covered with bangs. When I decided I didn't want to look like middle-school aged Winnie Cooper anymore I grew them out and left the grey in. Finally my whole head started to turn so now, at 31, I dye it all the time. But I saw a woman on the train this morning with light brown hair and a lot of grey and she looked amazing. Somehow it just fit her. I think it depends on how you pull it off!

I've noticed a few errant grays, but not quite enough to go color. And hey, maybe I can be like the bad ass Caitlin spotted and pull it off! It would be nice against my freckles...

i've been dying my hair for years so i'm blissfully ignorant! i don't even want to know how many there are!

Oh do I feel your pain! I put up with the salt & pepa for as long as I could and finally broke down and started dying three years ago. And now I'm stuck dying forever. And I've never liked the color much ~ my hair picks up the red no matter what we do/use. And it's expensive and money I'd rather spend on other things. I MISS my natural color so badly!!!

i'm 21 and i have grey hair. awesome right? hair dye from the grocery store is basically my best friend.

I've been going grey for 4 years now. Somebody even told me on the bus once that I shouldn't think so much, as that would stop me getting grey hairs. Nice. I am colouring at the moment, because I wanted to be blond once in my life, but after I'm done with that phase, I will cut it all off and go au naturale. Which will probably be very salt'n'pepa-ish.

I have colored my hair for many, many years and I know it is mostly gray underneath. I would like to (maybe) try to stop coloring it but I don't know how to do it without looking like a skunk with a big white stripe down the middle for a few months.

On the other hand, you have (a) lovely eyebrow(s)!!

I have more visible gray hair than any of my same-age friends, but I don't color mine, because:
1. I'm lazy.
2. I'm kind of cheap and I'd rather spend my money on something else.
3. I tried it once (about a year ago) and actually just wasn't that impressed with the results. My goal was to hide the gray hairs as well as try to change their unruly texture, but the dye job honestly didn't make that much of a difference (or last for very long). For me, it just wasn't worth the cost. So for now, I'm embracing/ignoring mine.

@Annika: Why is it that so many people seem to think it's okay to comment on a stranger's gray hair?! IT IS NOT OKAY.

samara-
i'm with you. $100+ spent at the salon could be spent on new clothes. though i'd be wearing these new clothes with a full head of grey hair.

and what is it?? GREY OR GRAY!! who knows.

dreamday said...

first of all rebecca, your eyebrows are fantastic!
i've been coloring for a long time now so it's just part of my routine. i'm not ready to go gray (or grey). ;) yours look more like highlights. my daughter calls them "sparklies" haha!

rebecca said...

dreamday-
much thanks. i like sparklies... that's pretty darn cute.

I've been dying my hair since I first found greys at the age of 17 (I'm 31 now). I'd love to be able to rock a head of grey hair but I'm definitely not ready just yet. The battle for coverage, though, is getting harder and harder.

Grey vs gray is just British English vs American English. Like favourite/favorite, colour/color, etc.

annelise-
learned something new! thanks.
