guess where we went for our honeymoon? new york city. i know it's not turks and caicos but we were poor and we have always held the city in high regards. we wanted to explore it (again) together. we stayed in some random marriott in the financial district that overlooked ground zero. romantic.
our second day of honeymoon adventure involved walking around the west village. i had big plans to eat a cupcake at magnolia's bakery because i saw it on the sex and the city. as we strolled down bleecker we passed an apartment building (shown above) with the sign "open house- buzz 2C."
it should be known that i'm not the most adventurous person, but for whatever reason, i dragged ed inside to pretend as if we were there for the apartment showing. we asked the broker questions that most out-of-towners would have asked (where's the closet?), gave him a fake phone number, shook hands, and headed on our way.
back on bleecker, ed and i shared a look that needed no words. the apartment was tiny, closet-less, and included a measly half-size refrigerator. for whatever reason, looking at that apartment felt right.
here comes the insane everything-happens-for-a-reason ironic part......
ed's cousin lives on the upper west side. immediately after viewing the apartment, ed calls him up to say "hey man, we're moving to nyc." of course, ed was joking. to which his cousin replied, "awesome. my company is hiring. why don't you come by tomorrow for an interview?"
ed didn't pack interview attire. nor did he pack a tie. he showed up at the interview in casual khakis and a button-down. he made his best attempt at acting older than his age and averted questions that led him to explaining he was actually on his honeymoon.
a few weeks later, back in nashville, ed accepted the job. we packed our few belongings (plus a puppy-sized sam wiggins) in a budget moving truck and drove to new york city.
navigating the 15-hour trip. finding a place to sleep in the moving truck.

ah! what a great story! but then what?! can't wait to hear the rest..
That's a phenomenal moving to the city story!!! I love it!
Relly lovely story! So it goes when you are open and feel good!
Have a nice day! ♥
Awww...first, your wedding sounds so adorable - incredibly charming! Second...NYC was fate for the two of you - I'm so glad that you both (along with Sam Wiggins) took the plunge into city life! :)
What a sweet and fabulous story! I guess you were meant to live in NYC. Amazing!
This is such a cool story! Good for you guys!
That is an amazing story--if its meant to be and all that jazz!
We went to NY for our honeymoon because I had never been and always wanted to go--and it stole my heart in a way.
What an awesome story!
I love that story. People moving to NYC spontaneously are the best.
What a great story! It's a reminder to me today to hold onto ADVENTURE in my life. Further up and further in!
I love hearing the stories of how people ended up here. Everyone I know here has their own special version but they all contain some sort of "it's where I'm meant to be."
Ah crap. Just like everyone else, I loved this story! It's so great and, of course, Sam Wiggins breaks my heart. Thanks for the great blog!
That is the best story ever! Thanks for sharing!
So cute but where is the rest!!! :)
I love it when things like this happen, sometimes things just fall into place when your not trying and that's the best way.
How wonderfully serendipitious! Fingers crossed I get my own moving-to-NYC story soon.
Going with the flow...love that!
That is the coolest story ever, I almost don't believe it!
what a beautiful story... this is the kinds of things i love to read on blogs... Happy Valentine's Day!
that's awesome! and bonus that ed found a job in NYC on your honeymoon! the fates aligned for sure.
Oh wow, what an incredible story! I truly believe if we follow our heart we will never be off course. I love stories like this!
What a lovely story! Thanks so much for sharing :-)
What a wonderful and true story. Life is writing the best screenplay!

That's pretty crazy cool!
You two are awesome (well three including S.W.). This story makes me so happy. And it definitely re-affirms my belief that I shouldn't go to NYC because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't leave. EVER.
Also your J Crew dress is REALLY pretty. Good choice. Especially on a budge. I am SO not a fan of shiny, cheap looking, bedazzled David's Bridal dresses for budget weddings. Gag me.
it wasn't specifically my intention to post this on valentine's but it is a love story of sorts...
i was a bit nervous to hit publish, mostly thinking "who cares?"
people always ask us how we ended up here and i think it's important for them to know that it truly wasn't "on a whim." we would have never moved without ed having a job connection and lots of tedious planning on our part.
things aren't always as effortless as they seem. but if everything falls into place, it is truly meant to be.
SUCH a sweet story. That takes balls, girl.
Amazing story. So glad you moved here!
OMG!! We just went to New York over New Years and fell in LOVE with the city!! Crazy as it sounds but we would love to move there!! If the opportunity opened up I would move in a heart beat!!

best story. and so well written at that!
you know, we too went to new york city for our honeymoon (but it was not cheap!) we had an absolute blast...
I love this story so much.
This.is.awesome.
I wish I was that brave.
I've been reading your blog for a few months now and I have to say this is my favorite post. It reminded me of when my husband had a game changing phone interview in a tiny hotel room in Manhattan while we were on a weekend getaway a few years ago.
alex-
not brave! just no other life plans whatsoever.
heather-
thanks so much.
Oh my gosh. What a great story! I guess sometimes life puts you exactly where you're supposed to be :)
no way! That is the COOLEST story!
This is such a perfect story. Happy Valentine's Day, you crazy adventurers!
this is a fantastic story!!!
I wish I had the balls to pick up and move to NYC. Good story!
What a great story ! thanks for sharing !
^_^
I love this story. I also love that you guys moved here as newlyweds totally spontaneously. Thank you for sharing.
I'm of the "everything happens for a reason" school too. well, now I heart you even more than before. and I really love this story. I know that random marriott. it's not that random. and it happens to be across the highway from where I live now.
I'm happy you're here...and sam wiggins too!
ps--can I meet him someday? :)
Wow, what a fantastic story!
Now this is a good story! I adore NYC (went to NYU for some post grad work and even got engaged in the city) so anything to do with people moving there or living there is always so fascinating. Can't wait to hear more!

This is a sweet story, thanks for sharing Rebecca :) So happy you guys ended up here!!
Wow, I'm so impressed and moved by your story. You have guts you two!
It's the best thing to follow your dreams and your instincts!
What?! I love this! More people should live this way, I think. First find a place you would love to live, THEN find the job. How brilliant.
that is ridiculously awesome. here's hoping i have that kinda luck this year! the amazing-marriage part of it might take a bit longer, though. :) happy belated valentine's day...
what an awesome story and everything does happen for a reason most of the time! Thank you for sharing this!
God, I love the serendipity in your story. It's so what NYC is all about, you know? P.S. We're moving back (probably to your hood!) at the end of the summer. Bye bye NJ!
You guys are FREAKING. AWESOME. What a legit honeymoon!!!
Best "moving to NYC" story ever! And we went to New York for our honeymoon as well. I had never been there before October 2010, but I fell in love with the city right away and went back to celebrate my 30th birthday six months later. I'm itching to make my next trip out your way!
So many people have commented on this wonderful story. How could they not? How brave! I have always been the type who looked before she leaped and married a man who is even more so... Your faith in yourselves and in the leap itself is inspiring. Makes me smile.
what an INCREDIBLE story! I love it!! It's amazing how one decision can change everything.
That is the cutest most romantic story ever! You two will have quite a story to tell your children! p.s. miss you, when it gets springy out lets have lunch (for real this time)!
well this is just all kinds of fantastic.
this is AMAZING!!! great!
Thanks so much for sharing your story. My BF and I are hoping to move to NYC sometime this year and I've often wished for a type of guidebook or tips from people who've done it. So thanks!
i absolutely love this story.
it's amazing what opportunities life hands us. as someone who moved from nashville to nyc, i especially enjoyed it.
what a great story!
I just handed in my notice today, after only 6 months, in the first secure job I've ever had, to move to NYC from Ireland...adventure here we come
aoife-
wow!!! congrats. thanks for sharing. :)
thanks! stories like yours remind me that some stuff happens for a reason...and sometimes you just have to jump in
What a great story! After getting married in NYC (I'd never even been - we're from SF), we moved our whole lives to Germany a month later. Sometimes that element of adventure is just the best way to start a new life together!
