how to frost a magnolia's cupcake.

Thursday, March 29, 2012

it should be known that magnolia bakery on the upper west side has one of the cleanest and largest public restrooms you'll find in nyc. on a recent potty break, i snuck in to find new employees learning how to frost their iconic cupcakes. cha-ching!

apparently you schmutz a big dollop in the center, give the bottom a little spin, and effortlessly press it down. i'm sure it's not as easy as it looks.

ps: how to frost a sprinkles cupcake.

This post is seriously making me crave cupcakes. I don't think I would be able to frost that good though!

I've studied their method so many times but can't seem to replicate it at home. I must be missing the Magnolia magic.

Ha! My mom and I have our own little list of clean public bathrooms in the city just in case of an emergency. Magnolia is the perfect two-fer! Potty break AND a cupcake. Double score.

Ohh, this is brilliant! I've visited Magnolia Bakery when I was in New York and I wish I lived next door. Seriously, so good. And these photos are so nice!!

Never used Magnolia's restrooms - thanks for the great tip!
I cannot pass Magnolia's without buying at least one cupcake...

Just popping in to say that "schmutz" actually means "dirt" in Yiddish. Not the most appetizing connotation for a cupcake!

erin-
ha! thanks. schmutz is my filler word for most anything. i'll leave it up and we can all get a laugh out of it.

This Magnolia must be much larger than the one on Bleecker. I was there last week and was very claustrophobic. Wouldn't stop me from returning however - my cupcake was INSANE!

you're totally right about that bathroom. it is immaculate. I was uptown one afternoon when I was pregnant with Lucia and of course I had to pee so I stopped in and used the loo and of course got a delicious cupcake (or two, don't judge).

i'm thinking more ny establishments should use clean bathrooms as a marketing ploy.

Oh dear, yum! In theory it sounds really easy...just like Sprinkles, but I bet it will take me a few tries. I can always eat the ugly ones!
