what about multi-vitamins?

heirloom tomatoes

i'm a picky eater with an added layer of vegetarianism. it gives me a peace of mind to take a multi-vitamin. though i doubt it's really necessary.

nutrients and vitamins in our food are absorbed properly because they are combined with other foods. popping those phytochemicals into a pill is impossible as we are only swallowing one component of the whole.

michael pollen says we should "be as vitamin-conscious as the person who takes supplements, but don't actually take them."

my advice? if you think you're lacking a balanced diet, pop a couple kids gummy vitamins every few days. i do.

We do the same. One vitamin I do like and have noticed a difference with though: the Trader Joe's fish oil gummies. Shinier hair, better nails, etc.

smith and ratliff-
thanks for the tip! i've yet to find a fish oil gummy that doesn't taste like poo.

I like your point. I go through phases where sometimes I take vitamins and sometimes I don't.

Oh, they taste like poo alright, but I think I'm secretly to the point where I kind of like them! ;)

I learned from a biology teacher once that if you want to take vitamins that aren't chewable, put one in a glass of water for an hour. If it doesn't dissolve by then you will know that it's just going straight through you. I thought that was helpful :)
