summer skin tips

1. i forego moisturizer in the summer and wear this face sunscreen instead. oil free, spf 50, and not the least bit sticky. it quickly absorbs into your skin.
2. summer berries are crazy loaded with antioxidants that help protect your skin and hair, among other awesome things like fight disease. even better if they are organic.
3. it's time to jump on the all-natural deodorant train. more on that here
4. wear a hat. you'll instantly look dashing and smarter than everyone NOT wearing a hat.
5. lip balm with a bit of color and spf. the passion color seems to be all-around flattering.
6. a citrusy spritz of strawberry flowers makes you feel a bit more freshy fresh, even when you're not. the light scent isn't overwhelming or headache-inducing.
7. right now i'm stuck on aveeno spf 100 for it's high sun protection and non gloopiness.
8. watermelon is almost 95% water. snack it up to stay hydrated and full.
9. my dermatologist makes sure i'm using retinol. get on it.
10. tis easier to drink more water when it's with you at all times.

ps: skin care for the winter and homemade toner.

These are great products...I think we both are very fair, and I always wear sunscreen, along with hats. We will look always look younger! I need to get on the natural deodorant train.

i really do need a better all-over sunscreen, so thanks for the aveeno tip (and man is that spf ever high!). for my face, i've been using the neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch, and it's been amazing so far - no break outs, not greasy, smells good. it always sucks how expensive sun protection is though...

Thanks for the tip on the apple cider vinegar toner. I've been using it for about two months now and it's made a small but super noticeable difference in like, overall skin niceness.

Has you ever tried Soapwalla's deo cream? I love Malin & Goetz deo but it's failed me in a couple un-airconditioned summer meetings.

These are great skin tips! I'm paranoid about sun damage and always make sure i'm using moisturizers with SPF. I also use that Aveeno 100...I haven't burned once this year :)

Thanks for the Aveeno tip - I'm very fair and try to stay that way but I'm even more conscious of the sun now that I have a son!

I love that aveeno mineral block. My sister teases me bc I put SO much on it's like a white pasty mess on my arms but it goes away and at least I know I'm protected.

Love this post! I've been looking for a natural deodorant, and tried making my own with coconut oil, baking soda, and arrowroot; but it just didn't satisfy.

I just might have to try your Strawberry Flowers spritz. I've been looking for an easy, not overwhelming scent. Great round-up Becca!

I've always been a whiter shade of milk so am constantly applying SPF. My friends however enjoy looking like shake and bake. That said I haven't heard about the Kiehl's SPF. You don't use moisturizer with it but could you? I find that most SPF's tend to dry me out BIG time.

your shake and bake friends can be your wrinkly friends some day. :)

i think you could certainly use moisturizer under the kiehl's sunscreen if you needed it. doubling up is just a bit oily for me in the summer months.

I'm 100 percent addicted to Kiehl's skin products, but ashamed that I've never used the sunscreen. Oh and retinol is the shi*t!

Ohhh... retinol. I am so supposed to be doing that... and water, and hats... and oh my, my skin is in trouble. This is a fantastic list in any case!! It gives me something to aspire to!

... also I am fully obsessed with Malin + Goetz. LOVE their products.

I just LOVE this–especially since I got an accidental sunburn this weekend, and need to remember to throw a little SPF 100 in my bag for surprise visits to the beach!

My skin is freaking with the onset of humidity so I'm just going to copy every thing you posted here.

Oh strawberry flowers sounds quite delightful - I'll have to check it out the next time I'm at a Sephora

Loved this post.

I remember you posted about retinol before and I keep reminding myself to 'get on it'. I'm going to but this.

I love your skin posts! I'm always at a loss about what to do, skin-wise, when the weather changes. This is great!

I've been wanting to jump on the retinol band wagon but am hesitant because I've been trying to "green" my products in general. I need to hear from other green beauty lovers that this really can be the one exception. Thoughts? Thanks!
Instead of apple cider vinegar, I've been using alcohol-free witch hazel... both as a toner, and mixed with olive oil as eye makeup remover.
Love your beauty posts, keep them coming!

meaghan-
according to my dermatologist, retinol (vitamin A) has actually been proven to prevent wrinkles, unlike a lot of other creams out there.

as with everything, take it with a grain of salt. if retinol is a key component in a new potion you want to try out, it will be listed as such near the top of the ingredient list.

hope that helps a bit. i'm certainly no expert.

recently purchased number five in plum. i would have thought it too dark had the nice lady at sephora not urged me to try it on. i think the shade would suit you as well.

jen g-
it does look dark. thanks thanks! :)

Love your tips! I'm also really pale and use sunscreen every day. My favorite natural deodorant is Jason with Tea Tree Oil.

I've been using a brightening cleanser from Apothederm http://apothederm.com/shop-products/brightening-acne/brightening-cleanser/ and it's been working wonders on my skin this summer!
