absolute bagels nyc

i have this place in my heart for the upper west side in the 100's near columbia university. for whatever reason, it doesn't feel like you're in manhattan anymore. we find ourselves walking up there a lot on the weekends to get treats at the hungarian pastry shop and stock up on bagels for the week at absolute.

new yorkers get opinionated over pizza and bagels. everyone knows the best place and there's no use arguing about it. pick your favorite and defend it.

i daresay they are the best bagels on the upper west side, though i'm sure some would disagree.

ps: it's close to the famous seinfeld restaurant.

Murrays in Chelsea. Ha! But I'll have to try these ones- honestly, I'm pretty open to any bagel.

I was just there yesterday for the first time - I recognized that sculpture (pears?)! Chelsea is obsessed with "Suits" and apparently the house the main guy lives in is on 107th and Riverside, so we took a drive by - have you seen it? I believe it's one of the few freestanding homes in the city.
And bagels? This Jewish gal from Brooklyn votes for Canarsie Bagels, long since gone.......

We could only be so lucky to have more than one option for bagels out here. Sigh.

It's awesome to have favorite places to go where you know what you love! Thanks for sharing about your latest trip to such a place.

I love bagels and especially in new York! The south has a thing or two to learn about that :)

Ah, that's my old stomping grounds. I went to Bank Street for graduate school on 112th and Broadway. One of the best neighborhoods in the whole damn city.

My overall favorite is Brooklyn Bagel. Funnily enough, they're located in Queens. Although I LOVE some of the ones from Panera, like the French toast bagel. Or the Cinnamon Crunch bagel. Okay, I can't choose. They're both amazing!

I wish Seattle had more good bagel places. Bagels are so good. But I guess it's good they don't because I always feel guilty when i eat them (probably because it rains like every day and I don't walk nearly as far/much on a regular day as I should).

Lovely pictures, per usual!

Bagels in California are kind of sad.

you look so pretty in that photo...gorgeous smile!
As for bagels, ironically my favorite place is in long island near my mom and dad's. and I've got a few favorites for pizza too but the best is also the place where we ate growing up. Go figure. And the reason why we have the best bagels and pizza anywhere in the world is bc of our water. good ole Government Juice in NYC.

Amen, sister. This spot is right around the corner from my apartment, and it's a complete wonder that I don't weigh a gajillion doughy pounds given how often I'm in there. Here's to Morningside Heights!

molly-
yes! it's so good, right? :)

oh, the nostalgia! this post really brought me back! I have to say thank you for it, and also: yum!
I've only visited New York twice but it was enough for me to fall hopelessly in love with the city!
I stayed right around the corner of Absolut Bagels, on 107th, so soon I became kind of a regular. Those bagels were the first (and best) thing I tasted there and I miss them; just a little less than I miss NYC...

I went here when I visited NYC, and it was so good we went back a second time! I really, really want one of their bagels now.

ooh thanks for the tip! always up for a new bagel place! my favorite on the west side (and coincidentally in the same neighborhood) is nusbaum & wu. morningside heights is the first neighborhood i got to know in the city so it's always been a favorite. on the east side (where i live), h&h midtown bagels are my favorite.

i went to absolute when i was on my week long first time ever trip to NYC, my friend who I was staying with works at Columbia and they were the best bagels of the trip! I am craving one after this post!!!

Looks delicious, I'm a huge bagel fan and make my own when I have the energy and a free morning, but that happens so infrequently of late. In the UK we haven't quite cottoned onto the bagel thing, and so I'm stuck between bad bagels or no bagels, depending on how lazy I am being during any particular week. Oh, to have a choice of New York bagel bakeries on my doorstep! Sounds heavenly.

Ulch, I have the BIGGEST place in my heart for the Columbia/Barnard area. It's my school! I wish I could go to Koronet Pizza, Nussbaum/Wu and the "Seinfeld Diner" every single day, like I used to in 1999. I will always love those streets and those gorgeous, old buildings on RSD in the 100s. Also, when Columbia puts its Christmas lights up on college walk, my heart stops.

ed and i have moved to one of those old buildings on RSD in the 100's.... in our minds.

I live in New Hampshire, but every single time we visit the city I must - MUST - go to Absolute and stock up on lots of yummy bagels to bring home. The Egg bagels? My mouth is watering just thinking of them ... :)
