new york fire escape

don't judge me for this, but i'm pretty sure watching sex and the city re-runs after college had something to do with me moving to nyc. remember carrie bradshaw's dramatic one-liner.... "my building's going co-op!"

well, that happened. sort of.

a few weeks ago, a guy buzzes our apartment and asks to speak to mr. money bags, the new owner of the apartment. of course, he mistakenly buzzed the wrong apartment and opened his mouth when he shouldn't have. i hyperventilated and called ed at work to say..... "OUR BUILDING'S GOING CO-OP!!" i reveled in my carrie bradshaw moment, mind you.

ed did a noteworthy job of calming me down, as he always does, seeing as how we didn't know all the facts at the time. i was also wishing i had a mr. big so i could march into his office and say... "i need to know (dramatic pause) what you know (long pause) about money" and then he hands me a check for a down payment and i go talk to my girls as to whether i should keep the money or not.

i worried and worried over something i had no control over, hence the reason for this post. but things have settled down now and i'm happy to say we can stay in our teeny home. not because mr. big gave me a down payment but because the new owners want to continue to rent out the building. score! though new owners always bring about it's own anxiety.

No judgment here about your Carrie Bradshaw moment, everyone should live in NYC at some point in their life. I am still waiting for my turn! I want to live in Paris as well, but, for now, Chicago isn't a bad home. :)
Glad you're able to stay in your home, I hope you are not worrying anymore!

Hahaha, hate that it was such a worrisome event (I freaked out for you!), but it makes for a very funny post.

Also.... When i watch Sex and the City now, as a 30-year old woman....it's much different than when I watched it in college. Ah, growing up.

I have been dying to move to NYC for years and may try next year to actually make it up there... of course pending on my job. Reading rent prices on Craigslist and reading articles about how expensive it is kind of freaks me out though. Is it realistic to live there as a normal/not incredibly wealthy person? :)

My husband does that for me as well, he's the calm in my storms. It's good to have someone like that. Would also be nice to have a Mr. Big to hand me checks though :)

haha. no judgments. i'm pretty sure my desire to go to university in new york was inspired by the tv show felicity.

it was pretty embarassing to be at orientation with all these other people who choose the school for academic and political reasons and here i was inspired by a TV show.

i guess what i am trying to say is thank god i'm not the only one!

Ohhh so much stress. I feel the stress for you and I don't blame you because I would have been stressing out just as much. Also I'm pretty sure every girl is guilty of indulging in some sex and the city at one point or another, so don't feel bad about that either. I'm glad you get to stay (for now) because you have one of the raddest apartments I've ever seen (on the internet).

Jeez, talk about a happy ending! I'm a teensy bit envious you got to have a real life Carrie moment, but so much happier that it all worked out just right!

Being an Austraian I have no idea what "going co-op" means but it sounds VERY bad (it sounded pretty bad for Carrie too).

I'm totally a Charlotte with a little Samantha thrown in. Surprised? Anyhow, glad to hear you get to keep your little slice of NY real estate pie.

I cringe every time I watch Carrie rip up that check. And no matter how many times I've seen the series (way too many) I'm still hoping Carrie and Aiden don't breakup in season 4. It still makes me cry Isweartogod.

I'm very glad that you've settled the issue. I know the feeling, I've been there. The photo fits your post so well too.

there are many reasons why I adore you and this is yet another one. It's so stressful to go through this but hopefully it's behind you. Also, I freaking love SATC so much I have actually contemplated taking the SATC tour around the city. Can we go together?

monica-
so many jokes would be told on this tour it'd boggle the mind. so yes, let's go.
