new york water towers

i always thought new york water towers were a relic hanging out on old buildings but not actually in use. while some of them ARE very old, they are usually found on buildings taller than six floors to help control water pressure. i rarely see water towers on fancy schmancy high-rise buildings, so i have to assume they are covered so as not to be an eye sore. feel free to enlighten me.

during a brief apartment search, we fell in love with an eleventh floor one bedroom that included an up-close view of the neighboring building's water tower. according to the hard-selling broker, it was a classic new york view. for a bajillion dollars in rent, someone else can be face to face with a rusty water tower.

have you heard about the water tank project? awesome.

Hmmm....that intrigues me as well. They are fascinating but I wouldn't want to stare at one all the time either.

Only a real estate agent would call that a "classic NY view"–amazing!

I don't think there's anything scarier than apartment hunting in New York.

I love to live in NYC and have a view of the water towers...really, I would! It's just SO New York. I love them.

I kind of adore water towers. Every time I visit a new city I manage to find all the rusty water towers and photograph them. So needless to say, I totally love these. But definitely would pay a bajillion dollars to view it everyday lol.

we're very in sync!

i was just on my roof yesterday counting the water towers in sight. our roof is 8 floors up and i counted at least 25 in all ways. i said the same thing, luxury high rise buildings probably just have them covered!

I keep coming back to this photo. I see several of these but from a different prospective. One of my favorite things about the UWS is all of the water towers. I count 12 from my 5th floor windows.
