i always thought new york water towers were a relic hanging out on old buildings but not actually in use. while some of them ARE very old, they are usually found on buildings taller than six floors to help control water pressure. i rarely see water towers on fancy schmancy high-rise buildings, so i have to assume they are covered so as not to be an eye sore. feel free to enlighten me.
during a brief apartment search, we fell in love with an eleventh floor one bedroom that included an up-close view of the neighboring building's water tower. according to the hard-selling broker, it was a classic new york view. for a bajillion dollars in rent, someone else can be face to face with a rusty water tower.
have you heard about the water tank project? awesome.
