i LOVE eataly, i really do. but i have never been crazy about the atmosphere as it's not really conducive to enjoying a good meal. if you've never been, imagine an immensely popular italian grocery store (the size of a small target) in the heart of chelsea wherein you can also sit yourself down in the middle and have an authentic italian meal. i think people put up with it (myself included) because the food is obviously delicious. i've also heard great things about their new rooftop brewery during the warmer months.
lately we've been skipping out on the restaurant scene and stopping in for cappuccinos instead. i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they make the best soy cappuccino in the city.

I just came from Rome and had an AMAZING cappuccino for the first time ever. I bet Eataly makes the next best thing! I'll definitely try it next time I'm in New York.
There is a great restaurant and coffee shop that serves Lavazza in my hood in Brooklyn. Beautiful space, great food, and best of all, you are skipping the tourist scene at Eataly!

The rooftop bar is pretty great, I will attest. I took a class there two years ago with Miss Lidia herself at the small classroom in the back of the place. She made us a 4 course meal and was as wonderful and huggable as you'd expect.

thanks for the advice!
Their gelato is on point and their hot chocolate will haunt your dreams. I'm also curious about what the final bill was for your order...
All I can think about now is a cannoli–New York, I miss you!
You mean, it makes you speak "Giada". ;) It happens.
Wow what a fabulous cafe!
OMG gotta check this out next time. eataly is the bomb. is this mineataly?
You should try the soy capp at Stumptown. It's my personal favorite.
never dined there, only been in and out...so chaotic!
related to your fish post - i love buying my fish at eataly. easy to get individual pieces to cook that night and they have a variety (wild, farmed, local, etc.) to fit people's needs. in case you hadn't checked them out for fish yet, you might like it!
