mike's sharpening truck

when the weather warms up a bit, we are greeted on sunday afternoons by mike the sharpener. he parks on our block, rings his bell (just like the ice cream truck), and a few neighbors come out from their brownstones with knives and scissors wrapped in kitchen towels. i hadn't seen mike and his rescued pit bull sidekick since last summer, nor had anyone else, which made for a busy sunday afternoon of sharpening.

ed and i always joke, "mike's here! run quick with the knives!" which is likely not funny to anyone but us and PLEASE don't run with knives.

mike is pretty popular with the chef's downtown and so is his canine helper.

This is really neat! I love hearing about people/businesses that keep old-school traditions alive.

Fantastic! Poor John sharpens our knives himself–and builds the furniture. Really, what would I do without that guy?!

I just chuckled out loud (woke my dog, but not my husband) at you and Ed thinking that joke is funny. Because it is, kind of, but also because I thought of all the things I find funny that no one else really does, and then I find them even funnier. Ok. SO random and weird. Goodnight!
