the daily muse

we're moving!! ok, only a few blocks down... but still! moving! i've been a mixed bag of emotions over leaving our first new york home, but this decision could not be more ideal and all the cards fell perfectly into place. i noticed a young couple standing outside a moving truck the other day and felt a twinge of jealousy over their unmistakable move-in day anxiety. i think that's how you know it's time to pack it up. and pack it up we shall!

the daily muse

i keep repeating jerry seinfeld's stand-up bit in my head.... "when you're moving, your whole world is boxes. that's all you think about. boxes, where are the boxes? you just wander down the street going in and out of stores. are there any boxes here? have you seen any boxes? it's all you think about. you can't even talk to people, you can't concentrate. will you shut up?! i'm looking for boxes!!"

the daily muse

we got into the new place this weekend and measured every square inch. as it always goes, some of our current furniture won't be coming with us for the move. i plan on snapping some photos of the furniture that will need a good home, if you're at all interested and live in the area. you can pay me in boxes.

fresh start. clean slate. white walls.

How exciting !!! I hate moving but I love a fresh start more! I discovered after too many moves that moving day goes much smoother if I'm slightly buzzed. It seems to calm me just enough that I can actually get moved, instead of just acting like a basket case and not getting any done!
Good luck! It's going to be fabulous!

Congratulations! There's nothing more motivating than moving to give your stuff a good purge, and oh the cleaning! Fresh starts are hard, but so rewarding. Good luck!

moving day for a New Yorker (or hey, a Hoboken-er moving to be a jersey city-er) is just down right awful. squeezing that favorite couch up those tiny windy brownstone stairs, seeing all those boxes in SUCH a tiny space always accompanied by "how did we get so much stuff" and "where's it all going to go" kinds of thoughts, kicking something to the curb to have it snatched up in mere seconds (especially if it's metal :P).... but it's all worth it for a fresh start :)

cheers.

How very exciting! I've been looking for a new place for months and, fingers crossed, it looks like I may have found one for later in the summer; I'm so excited. It's funny you make reference to your white walls...because I'm in the process of making a short list of white paints and your walls look so bright and fresh--any chance you know what colour it is?

kisha-

"you can pay me in boxes." HA!

Next Saturday, we'll make our first (married) move from TN to IN. Word to the wise: Barnes & Noble has awesome boxes! Especially if you are a petite one like I am, the Nook bulk boxes they receive in their shipping dept. are the perfect medium size and I can pack them to the brim without making them unbearably heavy.

Best of luck!

Look at you! That outfit is perfect.

Also, yay for your new place. I'm super excited for you guys and your new place. There's something about moving into a new apartment, figuring out where everything goes, getting rid of some things, getting a few new things, finally feeling settled in a new place, it's all so good. Enjoy!

So true in the boxes, I always turn into a maniac at work - "are you gonna use that box?".
Congrats on the new home! I have been getting the itch for a fresh start too, maybe he change in the seasons? So far I have been able to satisfy my urge with a couple gallons of paint, antique accessories from the flea and a raised garden bed.
