summer bike rides

i have the utmost respect for men who bike to work in a suit and ladies who ride around in heels and a dress. how? and why? to be fair, i actually sort of prefer biking in a longer dress because, well, air flow is on my side.

my bike gets a lot of use this time of year, but dang it i like to be comfortable. as for shoes, something that encompasses the whole foot is a necessity and i usually stick with converse. call me crazy but i don't like my toes hanging out near the asphalt. sweaty bike feet combined with dirty new york streets ends in a petri dish of growing bacteria from the ankle down.

and a helmet! you do NOT look as bad in a helmet as you think you do. plus, brains are kind of important. this one from bern is the most attractive and comfortable noggin' protector i've found.

happy riding!

I read the other day that NY doesn't have a bike law. What what? That's just crazy. Everyone here in WA is required to wear a helmet. Helmets are the coolest. Why people wouldn't wear them is beyond me. And I agree, the Bern helmets are pretty rad.

helmets = a must! too many head injuries, people. it is way more important to protect your brain than your perceived-coolness factor. (thanks for backing me up on this rebecca + rebeka!)

John had the genius idea to make dress/suit pants with padding built in for bicycling–but only after he destroyed two or three favorite pairs...

my little sister cracked her helmet in half when she fell off her bike as a child. if she hadn't had one on? i'mjustsayin'.
