chocolate chip banana bread

do you remember the sex and the city episode with miranda and the chocolate cake? she makes a box cake mix, takes bites all day, dumps it in the garbage, then digs it out of the garbage for another bite. or so it goes something like that. this banana bread reminded me of that episode, as i had a similar episode, just short of wanting to dump it in the garbage for my own good. i wake up middle of the night and sleepily walk to the fridge for a drink of seltzer-- oh hey!-- banana bread. standing over the sink (of course) i shove two slices in my mouth and mosey on back to bed. come morning i wake up with no appetite and a horrid taste in my mouth. damn if i didn't sleep eat the banana bread.

have you done this? is this one of those things no one talks about? either way, i have no self control over the banana bread and it will likely not be made again any time soon. keep it far from me!

but you should totally make it. no need to even get out the mixer.

chocolate chip banana bread
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 overripe mashed bananas
2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
good handful of chocolate chips

1. preheat the oven to 375F. cream melted butter and sugar. stir in beaten egg and mashed bananas.
2. add flour, salt, baking powder, and mix well.
3. stir in lemon juice and a handful of chocolate chips. pour into a well greased loaf pan and bake at 375 for the first 15 minutes.
4. reduce oven temp to 350F after 15 minutes and cook for another 45 minutes until bread is golden brown on top.

Banana bread is always a winner to me. The smell of freshly baked pastries is lovely to wake up to. For all of my pastries, I have substituted white flour with wheat flour, eggs with flax seed, sugar with honey/agave, and milk chocolate with dark chocolate. With these little tweaks, it makes me feel less guilty when I eat a larger slice!

Oh man, this looks good. I recently had a Miranda episode with a bag of green chile tortilla chips. It was bad.

One of my favorite Sex and the City episodes. Yesterday I threw away birthday cake that had serious power over me.

Yes yes yes I do this! I could eat like half a loaf and I always thought what the heck is wrong with me that I don't have more self control. I'm nine months pregnant and well just looking at the pictures of the bread is making me want to stay up late and make it just so I can wake up at 2 am *which I will be doing anyway... and it some!

Staring at a few brown bananas on my kitchen counter right now. I have a go-to standard, but might need to hit this one up.

Hahaha, the same thing happened to me with my banana muffins. What is it about banana baked goods that makes them so addictive?

I tried this recipe recently and it was a winner for sure! My husband and I absolutely loved it. I even featured it on my blog today: http://www.love-laurie.com/2013/09/chocolate-chip-banana-bread.html
