besides the doughy bagel sandwiches, i admit that russ and daughters is a bit lost on me and my unrefined taste buds-- caviar and pickled lox, anyone? but new yorkers are always claiming a spot as a new york institution and i'd say this place makes the cut. this coming from the gal who does not have an appreciation for smoked fish, so use your own judgement. i also have a theory that smoked salmon is the new york equivalent of country ham.
and now for the bagels that you should most definitely buy in bulk.
or pickled herring, perhaps.
while you're strolling the lower east side, might as well stop by economy candy for a bit of nostalgia. i completely forgot that circus peanuts even existed. and chewy sprees!
and thus ends the nyc experience tour, only made better if we were on a bus.
ps: another favorite bagel spot.
