russ and daughters

besides the doughy bagel sandwiches, i admit that russ and daughters is a bit lost on me and my unrefined taste buds-- caviar and pickled lox, anyone? but new yorkers are always claiming a spot as a new york institution and i'd say this place makes the cut. this coming from the gal who does not have an appreciation for smoked fish, so use your own judgement. i also have a theory that smoked salmon is the new york equivalent of country ham.

and now for the bagels that you should most definitely buy in bulk.

russ and daughters

or pickled herring, perhaps.

while you're strolling the lower east side, might as well stop by economy candy for a bit of nostalgia. i completely forgot that circus peanuts even existed. and chewy sprees!

and thus ends the nyc experience tour, only made better if we were on a bus.

ps: another favorite bagel spot.

Oh man, when we were in NY last autumn (we were supposed to leave the day Sandy hit...that's a whole other story), we wandered upon both of these places! Economy candy is pretty much the best place I've ever been in my life.

Lox are just one of those things I've never been able to get behind (but John LURVES it). I've never introduced him to caviar because I'm certain he'd drain our bank accounts in a heartbeat!
